What’s the difference between multifocal contacts and other contacts?

Multifocal contact lenses are specifically designed to correct presbyopia, a common age-related condition that affects your ability to see up close. Multifocal lenses incorporate multiple prescriptions into a single lens, allowing you to see clearly at various distances.

How do multifocal and bifocal contacts work?

Multifocal contact lenses are designed to correct presbyopia, allowing clear vision at various distances without the need for multiple pairs of glasses.

Unlike traditional bifocals with distinct vision zones, multifocal lenses offer a smoother transition between near and far vision.

There are two primary types of multifocal contact lenses:

Simultaneous vision lenses: These lenses provide both near and distance vision simultaneously. Your eyes naturally adapt to focus on the appropriate part of the lens based on the task at hand.

Segmented lenses: Similar to traditional bifocal glasses, these lenses have distinct zones for near and distance vision.

Both types of multifocal lenses offer a convenient solution for those with presbyopia.

Or, these step-by-step instructions can help:

Inserting multifocal contact lenses is very similar to inserting regular contact lenses.

Wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Use soap and a clean towel.

Open the lens case. Carefully remove the contact lens from its case.

Inspect the lens. Ensure the lens is in the correct shape (cup-like) and free from debris.

Place the lens on your index finger. Gently place the lens on the tip of your index finger.

Lift your upper eyelid. Use the middle finger of your opposite hand to lift your upper eyelid.

Pull down your lower eyelid. Use the ring finger of your opposite hand to gently pull down your lower eyelid.

Position the lens. Gently place the lens on your eye, aiming for the center of your pupil.

Blink slowly. This helps the lens settle into place.

Repeat for the other eye.

Remember: Consistent wear and proper care are essential for adapting to multifocal contact lenses. It may take some time for your eyes and brain to adjust to the new vision experience.

Do multifocal contacts make you feel dizzy?

While it's uncommon, some people may experience temporary dizziness or disorientation when first adapting to multifocal contact lenses.

This is usually due to your brain adjusting to the new way of focusing. If you experience persistent dizziness, consult your eye care professional.

Generally, these symptoms subside as your eyes become accustomed to the lenses.

How much do multifocal contact lenses cost?

The cost of multifocal contact lenses varies depending on several factors:

Brand: Different brands offer different price points.

Type: Daily, bi-weekly, or monthly lenses have varying costs.

Quantity: Buying in bulk often leads to lower per-lens costs.

Retailer: Prices can fluctuate between different stores and online retailers. Blue Planet Optics offers great prices for multifocal contact lenses.

Generally, multifocal contact lenses tend to be slightly more expensive than standard single-vision lenses. However, the convenience and improved vision they offer often outweigh the additional cost for many users.
